Our CrossFit Program

CrossFit Punta Gorda was founded in 2013. CrossFit Punta Gorda’s vision is to promote a lifestyle of fitness throughout our community. Owner and Director of Programs, John Shepard, brings years of knowledge and experience gained by living and training in Santa Cruz, California, the birthplace of CrossFit.

All of our coaches have a minimum of a CrossFit Level 1 Certification and have completed a comprehensive Coach training program developed by CFPG. Our coaches have decades of combined coaching experience and additional certifications in Olympic lifting, kettlebells, strongman, gymnastics, striking, nutrition and scaling (adjusting each workout to each member’s ability).

Each class is carefully designed every week to offer a mix of body weight movements, metabolic conditioning, and weightlifting that is programmed to be balanced, interesting (i.e. not boring!), and effective.

What to Expect?

Workouts can be adjusted in weight, intensity, and certain mechanics in order to scale to the experience and fitness levels of any individual, be it a total fitness beginner or elite competitive CrossFitter. This is the reason this program gets acclaim from military personnel, professional athletes, soccer Moms, Dads and grandparents alike.

All of our CrossFit Classes are coach-led and follow a planned progression roughly 60 minutes in duration and follow this basic structure:

A certified coach will guide you through warming up, followed by movement instruction and demonstration for the workout. The Coach will supervise and correct any movement performed by you during the workout.

Do you provide free refreshments there?

We have filtered water available to our members. Other snacks and drinks are available for purchase.

Do I have to be fit to join?
What payment methods do you accept?

We take all major credit cards and debit cards. We do not accept personal checks.

What kind of exercises can I expect during a workout?

Our class programming will include a strength portion in which you’ll work on something like Olympic weightlifting, deadlifting, squatting, or bodyweight strength or you may work on a skill like handstand push-ups. After the strength or skill portion of the class is complete, most days will involve a workout that was programmed for that specific day. Workouts can be anywhere between 5 to 20 minutes or more.

Do I have to stop eating my favorite foods to be healthy?

No! A healthy lifestyle has to be manageable and realistic for the long term. Do enjoy special indulgences and meals! The healthier you are, the healthier you tend to want to eat. You get hooked on feeling good, and junk food just isn’t worth it. By avoiding excessive amounts of refined carbohydrates and measuring your intake of protein, carbohydrates, and fat, you will see dramatic, measurable increases in health.
